How to use the various modes of the washing machine

Last Update date : Jun 13. 2025

When we do laundry, most of us put our jeans and t-shirts in, select the Normal cycle, and that's it. But your Samsung washing machine can do so much more. It is equipped with customizable features that, if used correctly, ensure that your clothes and sheets are impeccable at all times. Use the right cycle and your garments will retain their rich colors and have a much longer lifespan.

Note:

  • Cycles, settings, and functions vary by model. For product-specific information, please refer to the user manual.

We have included a list of the cycles available in our line of washing machines. Please note that not all cycles are available on all models. Check your washing machine's control panel or user manual for the specific features included in your model.

  • Normal: Default cycle. Recommended for cotton garments, bedding, tablecloths, underwear, towels or shirts. The washing time and the number of rinses are automatically adjusted according to the load.
  • FUZZY: Automatically detects the most suitable washing program. The water level is automatically adjusted, and the washing, rinsing and spinning stages are adapted to the selected cycle.
  • Quick wash: For lightly soiled garments that are urgently needed. For best performance, a maximum load of 2 kg is recommended.
  • Heavy: Provides a more intense and deeper wash.
  • Heavy load: Designed for resistant fabrics, solid colors and garments with a high level of dirt.
  • Powerful washing: For durable fabrics that do not fade and very dirty clothes.
  • Delicate: Ideal for fine garments such as underwear, lingerie, silk and other fabrics that are normally washed by hand. For best results, it is recommended to use liquid detergent.
  • Bedding: Recommended for bulky items such as duvets, blankets and sheets.

Note:

  • For best results, wash only one type of bedding per cycle.
  • In the case of bulky garments, it is recommended to use liquid detergent. Avoid rolling them inside the drum, as they could get stuck during washing.
  • Water saving: Turn this option on if you want to reduce water consumption. The water used during rinsing is reused in the next cycle.
  • Jeans: Recommended for garments that need a deeper wash, such as jeans.
  • Rinse + Spin: This cycle is useful for loads that only require rinsing, or for adding fabric softener. It can also be used after another cycle if you want to do an additional rinse and spin.
  • Eco drum washing or Drum cleaning: This option allows you to clean the washing machine drum. The high spin speed helps to remove residues and impurities, as well as reduce bad odors inside the drum.

Note:

  • Run this cycle once every 40 washes or when the "Eco Drum Wash" indicator on the washer panel comes on.
  • Make sure the drum is empty before you start the cycle.
  • White linen: Designed for white garments. It can be used with or without bleach, depending on your needs.
  • Sportswear: Recommended for workout wear, such as sweatshirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, and similar garments. This cycle effectively removes dirt through a controlled movement of the drum, ideal for fabrics that require special care.
  • AI washing: Automatically adjusts the cycle based on the type of laundry detected, optimizing the wash for each load.
  • Steam disinfection: For resistant fabrics that do not fade and very dirty garments. This cycle heats the water to over 60°C to kill bacteria and ensure deep cleaning.

Note:

  • If you stop the cycle while the washing machine is heating the water, the lid will remain locked for safety.
  • Baby clothes: Use high heat and extra rinses to help effectively remove detergent residue, taking care of baby's sensitive skin.
  • Permanent ironing: Ideal for synthetic fabrics that do not require ironing and for lightly or moderately soiled garments.
  • Starring: Designed for heavily soiled, solid-colored garments. This cycle heats the water to 65°C to kill bacteria.
  • Disinfection: Recommended for fabrics that do not fade and very dirty clothes. The water is heated to over 60°C to kill bacteria and ensure deep cleaning.
  • Super Spped: For garments with little dirt and loads of up to 5 kg. Offers faster and more efficient washing.
  • Towels: Special for bath towels, hand towels and mats. Provides a deep clean suitable for absorbent textiles.
  • My Cycle: Allows you to select additional cycles through the SmartThings app from your smartphone.

Important

These cycles are not available on all models. To find out which cycles are compatible with your washing machine, please refer to the User manual.

What do the buttons and settings on my washing machine mean?

We know that all the functions of your washing machine may seem many or difficult to understand, so we prepared a summary that explains what each option is for and how it works.

  • Cycles: The cycles of your washing machine are programs designed to wash different types of clothes. Each one performs the soaking, rinsing, and spinning stages. For example, the "Bedding" cycle is intended for washing blankets or duvets, while the "Delicate" cycle is ideal for garments that require gentle care, such as underwear.
  • Settings: Settings define how each wash cycle runs, including water temperature, spin speed, and number of rinses. For example, one cycle may use hot water and a high spin speed, while another may run on cold water and medium speed. Although each cycle comes with preset settings, in most cases they can be modified, although there may be some limitations depending on the model or type of clothing.
  • Features: Unlike settings, features are additional options that you can turn on as needed. They are not required to run a cycle. For example, the "Delayed Finish" feature allows you to program the washing machine to finish the wash at a specific time later. This feature is completely optional, unlike essential settings such as temperature, rinse or spin.

For more information on the different cycles available on Samsung washing machines, please refer to the "Wash Cycles" section of the user manual.

Run a cycle

Once you know the meaning of all the terms, you're ready to start a cycle in your washing machine. Before you begin, make sure you put the load of laundry into the washing machine, add the detergent and other additives, know which cycle and settings you want to use, and then close the door.

Step 1. Press the Power button to turn on the washing machine, and then press the cycle button or turn the cycle selection knob to select a cycle.

Step 2. Change the cycle settings (Water Level, Temperature, Rinse and Spin Centre) as needed. Select the desired functions (e.g. delay end, these functions are optional) and then press and hold Start/Pause (Press and hold to start).

Step 3. To cancel the cycle, tap Start/Pause again (Press and hold to start). Depending on the type of washing machine, the drum will empty the water if you cancel the cycle.

If your top-loading washing machine has an Active WaterJet system, you can pre-wash your clothes using the integrated tap. Tap the Active WaterJet button to open the water jet, then tap it again to stop the water. Then, press the power button on the washing machine to empty the drum before starting a cycle.
