To ensure that your clothes are cleaned properly with no residues and to avoid bad odours, it is important to know the layout of your detergent drawer of your washing machine, and how to properly use it.

Please follow the guides below for using the detergent drawer of your Samsung washing machine. If you have an auto dispenser type model, please refer to our "Using the Auto Dispenser" page. You can also find our "Cleaning the Detergent Drawer" page for a guide on maintaining your detergent drawer.

  • It is recommended to use the HE (High Efficiency) detergent with all Samsung washing machines.
  • Do NOT use the following types of detergent in the drawer: tablet, capsule, ball, or net types.
  • Do NOT apply powder detergent to the liquid detergent container (C).

A front load washing machine provides a three-compartment dispenser: the left compartment for the main wash, the centre for fabric softeners, and the right for the preliminary wash.

  • Prewash compartment (A): For the preliminary wash. Apply prewash detergent.
  • Main-wash compartment (B): For the main wash. Apply main wash detergent, water softener, soaking detergent, bleach, or stain remover.
  • Softener compartment (C): For the fabric softeners. Apply additives such as fabric softener. Do not exceed the max line (D).

*For liquid detergent: First, insert the provided liquid detergent container in the main-wash compartment. Then, apply the liquid detergent to the container below the marked max line (A).

1 Always use a low suds detergent.

Low suds detergent is designed for automatic washing machines. It is also highly recommended to use HE (High Efficiency) Detergent for ALL Samsung washing machines.

2 Use warm water (at least 40°C).

Using warm water will help dissolve the detergent. If you use cold water, detergent will not dissolve properly and can remain on your garments, hose, or spin basket, causing contamination of your clothes.

3 Do not use excessive amounts of detergent.

Using excessive amounts of detergent will not improve the effectiveness of your wash. It may instead cause damage if not rinsed thoroughly enough, as detergent residue can be left on your clothing. Each brand can have different recommended amounts of detergent, so please follow the suggested guidelines from your detergent manufacturer.

4 Rinse your clothes sufficienty.

If clothes are not rinsed sufficiently, detergent residue can remain on your clothing and cause bad odours. This is especially important for if you use powder detergent. If you suspect that your clothes have not been rinsed thoroughly enough from the cycle, you can always operate a rinse cycle afterwards.

5 Detergent must be put in the detergent drawer.

If using powder detergent, putting it directly on the laundry can cause discolouration.
