Samsung TV powers on but displays a black screen

Last Update date : 2025-05-14

"No Display" issue on a Samsung TV refers to a problem where the television is not showing any picture or video. It might be caused by the power supply, an improper input or source selection, or a fault with the TV's internal hardware or software.

  • Press the Home button on your remote.
  • If the TV showed the menu, then the source is not correct or it is not receiving a signal.
  • If the TV did not show anything, this might mean your TV is not ON and might not be working.
1 Check if the standby LED is on.

Hold your smartphone under the TV to find the standby LED. If it's off, unplug and plug in the power cable. Then disconnect and reconnect the Invisible Connection cable. Make sure it’s not pinched or sharply bent.

Check the standby LED again. If it's on, press the power button. If it turns off, the TV is correctly connected to power.

2 Check if the TV is set to the same source as the external device.

Use the remote to access the input or source menu and confirm the correct input is selected.

3 Softly tap the screen with your finger.

If the part of the screen you tapped on blinks, your TV is correctly connected to the power supply.

4 Reset the TV.

Unplug the TV from the power outlet and leave it unplugged for a few minutes. Then plug it back in and turn it on.

5 Check the external device.

Make sure the external device (such as a cable box or a streaming device) is on and properly configured. Also try connecting a different device or using a different source port.  If the TV can display a picture in any other setup, then you've ruled the TV out as the cause of the issue.

6 On the remote control, press the Home or Menu button.

If the menu appears, the external device may not be working or the connection to the TV is faulty.

Check the video input cable connection to the TV or One Connect Box, and ensure the external device is turned on. If not, check its power cable connection to the device and wall outlet.

7 Check the connection of the video input cable to your TV or One Connect Box.

Make sure cables between the TV and One Connect Box or external devices are properly connected, and the correct source is selected.

If the issue continues, try connecting another external device via HDMI. If it displays correctly, the original device may be faulty.
