How to Fix LE or LC Error Codes on Your Dishwasher

Last Update date : 2025-05-12

Fixing a leaking dishwasher can be challenging. If the leak is serious, check the leveling legs, water supply hose, and drain hose. If the dishwasher shows LE or LC error codes, it means moisture was detected somewhere it shouldn't be, even if you can't see or hear a leak. In this case, you should also check the detergent drawer and other possible sources.

How to solve the LE and LC error code

Error codes LE and LC

Do you have a leak that can be seen after checking for one, or is it simply the error code?

1 Run a cycle to help find the source of the leak.

The quickest way to find a leak is to look and feel for moisture, but it will only be present right after the leak happens. Run a test cycle to help locate the source.

If you see visible signs of a leak or get an error code, turn off the dishwasher at the circuit breaker right away.

2 Inspect the water supply hose.

When inspecting, look and feel for moisture, damage, loose connections, or gaps between the assembled parts. Make sure to inspect:

  • Where the hose connects to the dishwasher
  • Where the hose connects to your home
  • The entire length of the hose

3 Level your dishwasher.

If the dishwasher is not level from left to right, the door could be bumping the cabinets on either side, preventing it from closing completely.

If the dishwasher is not level front to back, and especially if the front is lower than the back, water will pool up at the door and potentially leak out.

4 Inspect the rubber seal.

The rubber seal can be pulled out of alignment at times. If this occurs, simply push it back into the channel.

It's also important that the seal is very clean. Any foreign material on the seal could potentially create a gap big enough for water to leak out. A towel with mild soap is a good way to clean it off.

5 Verify the sides of the tub are not bowed or stretched.

If the cabinet screws are over-tightened, it will stretch the sides of the dishwasher, causing gaps that can leak.

Measure across the opening exactly where the screws are. It should measure exactly 22 inches. If it measures more than that, loosen the cabinet screws until the issue is corrected.

6 Inspect the water nozzles.

If there's food stuck in the nozzles (or the jets or anywhere that water sprays out of), the food may be diverting the spray of water to spray straight at the door with enough force to push it through the seal, causing a leak. Make sure all the nozzles and jets are clean.

Note: Once the dishwasher shows visible signs of a leak, turn the dishwasher off at the circuit breaker.

1 Unplug the dishwasher or turn it off at the circuit breaker.

When checking for the leakage issue, make sure that you are safe by turning off the dishwasher and preferably removing the plug from the power source outlet. It is a much safer and recommended action to do to avoid any accident.

2 Inspect for a visible leak
  • Inspect the water supply hose, check the connections at both ends, and look for and feel for moisture. If a leak is found, turn off the water supply or clean the moisture.
  • Please observe after some time, if the leak is still there or not.

3 Give the dish washer time to dry
  • If you recently moved the dishwasher, some water may have splashed near the sensor underneath. Give it time to dry or if you can find the leakage, then try to remove it by using a cloth.

4 Look for lingering excess detergent.

Moist detergent can trigger the moisture sensor and cause an error, since it doesn't dry as quickly as water. Using too much detergent can leave excess residue in the system. Make sure you’re not overfilling the detergent dispenser, and only add detergent inside the dispenser—not outside it.
